General Info:
Each year Chamblee Middle School competes in the Middle School Division of the Science Olympiad (Div. B). There are 23 events each year (with a trial event at State). The events rotate and change each year, so some events may come and go. Students will usually study three to four events or topics and will most likely compete with one partner (teams of two). Parents are asked to help coach events. The regional competition is usually in February, with the state competition in March.
The team interest meeting is held in August, along with a student survey. The survey is used to help choose students for the team. We can have up to 15 students on a team, and some years we have enough interest to have two teams. Whole-team meetings will take place usually on a Wednesday and will begin in September. There is an invitational held in January for a few of the events. The regional tournament is usually held in February and the State Tournament, if invited, is in March.
Science Olympiad is a TEAM oriented activity. Every student who makes the team is a part of its success. It is a big commitment. I caution every student to think about how many activities they would like to do and make sure there is enough time to devote to each one. We have many students who do several activities at once and though I try to work with everyone, it is not always possible to choose dates and times that are convenient to everyone.
